While at work this past weekend, I had the distinct displeasure of reading a blog post put up by a person who decided that Japanese culture and anime in general is sexist because the shows they were watching had the female characters doing nothing in their words. I hate when people cry sexism over the stupidest shit. And yes, I think the shit is stupid. I think people that cry sexism over every little thing are fucking morons. They are the ones that cry wolf about every little thing and when something indeed is wrong, it’s ignored because it’s viewed as bullshit whining. That kind of shit is why we can’t have nice things. I personally don’t care if others agree about my opinion on this or not, because this is just my opinion. I am of the opinion that bawwwing everytime you don’t get your way means you’re a fucking pansy that needs to grow up and live in the real world. You need to take responsibility for your actions and not blame everything on someone else. And if you’re going to watch a shit show like Naruto, you get what you deserve.
And yes, the first bout of bawwwing was over Naruto. A show aimed at 10 to 18 year old MALES. The show focused on the MALE characters. I don’t know about you, but my brothers would not have watched a 24 minute commercial for the toys if it was about fucking Barbie. Most cartoons aimed at that particular demographic are just that, a long commercial to get toys sold. And if you wanted to see a female oriented show, why the fuck are you watching shonen shit anyway? What does Wikipedia say about shonen manga?
The term shōnen, shonen, or shounen manga (少年漫画, shōnen manga) refers to manga marketed to a male audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18. The Kanji characters (少年) literally mean “few” and “year”, respectively, where the characters (漫画) generally mean “comic”. The complete phrase literally means “young person’s comic.” Examples include Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, Hunter X Hunter, One Piece, Saint Seiya, Fairy Tail, YuYu Hakusho, Detective Conan, Yu-Gi-Oh and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Huh. Wow. Well what about the female characters doing “absolutely nothing”?
Shōnen (少年) manga (漫画) is typically characterized by high-action, often humorous plots featuring male protagonists. The camaraderie between boys or men on sports teams, fighting squads and the like is often emphasized. Attractive female characters with exaggerated features are also common (see fan service), but are not a requirement; Dragon Ball, for example, has only a few such characters. The art style of shōnen is generally less flowery than that of shōjo manga, although this varies greatly from artist to artist, and some artists draw both shōnen and shōjo manga.
So you’re going to complain about anime aimed at males, dealing with action stories about said male characters and whine that it’s sexist? Fuck you. You need to start watching shoujo anime and shut up. Seriously. I wouldn’t complain that Barbie discriminated against males because the males seriously do nothing. That would be fucking stupid. And you’re going to complain about another culture based on the viewing of 13 episodes of Naruto. REALLY? What the fuck is wrong with you.
Now I don’t watch Naruto because, lol ninjas in fluorescent orange hurr durr! It’s not the type of show I’m into. Obviously they need to find a new show to watch as well. I’d suggest something like Sailor Moon or some other
Mary Sue shit to watch. I’m not into that shit either, but I’m not going to bash you if you enjoy shows like that.
To be fair, it wasn’t a single show that they based this cry to the waaaahmbulance to. It was two. The second show was The Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Now that pissed me off. I quite enjoy LoGH quite a bit, and don’t seem to mind a bit that the female characters are minor to the story itself and seem kind of derpy at times. It’s a space opera. It’s science fiction. It’s about FUCKING WAR, not pretty dresses and kissing princes and fucking bullshit like that. Why are you watching a show like this? WHY? You obviously have no interest in such things except to bawwww! about them at the drop of a hat because the gurls are not evenly represented.
Oh, sorry, I guess I missed the part where men are crying about Days of Our Lives not being manly enough. Or As the World Turns having too few explosions and gun battles. Personally, I may tune in if there were massive space fleet battles during General Hospital. Probably not though because I can’t fucking stand soap operas. You don’t see men bitching about it though. They watch something else. You don’t like Naruto, that’s fair, I don’t either. You don’t like LoGH? That’s fine too. Don’t fucking play the sexism card however. Both of those shows are aimed at males. Watch something else you whiner.
